How to Embed a Series of Tweets from Twitter into a WordPress.com Post Without Duplicates

If you are trying to embed a series of tweets from Twitter on your WordPress.com site, sometimes it includes the parent conversation, showing duplicates tweets and making it hard to read.

That typically happens when you are trying to post your tweet like this:

https://twitter.com/thetwitterusername/status/thetweetid

Here’s how to remove the duplicate tweets from your WordPress post or page.

You need to embed the tweet with a shortcode like this

[ tweet https://twitter.com/thetwitterusername/status/thetweetid ]

(but remove the space after the opening bracket and before the closing bracket)

and add the

hide_thread="true"

to hide the duplicate parent thread.

Here’s the syntax for it. Just copy and paste this code into your post or page editor and replace the URL (the part that starts with http) with the URL of your status:

[ tweet https://twitter.com/thetwitterusername/status/thetweetid hide_thread=”true” ]

(but remove the space after the opening bracket and before the closing bracket)

Scorpion: A Review (Not Really a Review, More Like a Fact-Check)

Scorpion, a new TV show on CBS, is in one of my least favorite genres of all: the action-IT genre.  This is the genre where high speed car chases, explosions and the like feature prominently in the life of an IT person.  As soon as I saw the trailer with the Ferrari under a flying airplane, I already knew this was going to be one of those shows.

The show is based loosely (and I mean very, very loosely) on the life of Walter O’Brien, a computer expert who helps the government solve complex issues.  Walter is considered one of the five smartest people alive worldwide with an IQ of 197.

Create. Love. Live.

Donald Trump almost named his building Tiffany Tower after the famous jewelry store, but then he decided to name Trump Tower after himself. He thought it was important to put his own name and brand on the property he was building.

I decided to name my website simply after my own name to reflect my brand (brand of what, I don’t know). I’ve blogged before under different names (like businesses or pseudonyms) but now I just want to blog as me: Honey Silvas.

The tagline for my site is “Create. Love. Live.” because I love creating, whether it’s photo, video, a website, an app or anything. I think it is really important these days to not just be a consumer of technology, but also be an active creator.

cropped-honey_silvas_logo4.png

This is the logo for my site. I had retooled a logo for an old business (Silvas Films) that one of my friends (@iamjopay) had made for me.

I love the logo so I just changed the colors from blue to pink and reused it. The letters in the center are actually “sf” for Silvas Films, but it can also read as an “H” for Honey so I am just going with it. The logo is the shape of a honeycomb after the Honey in my name and the swish at the top is kinda like a bee antenna. When I told Jopay about the concept of my logo, she really captured the essence that I wanted so I am glad to be able to use this logo (forever!).

I asked my baby

I asked my baby, “Do you want some mam-mams (to breastfeed)?” She smiled happily and clapped excitedly. I was like, “Thank you, I deserve an applause.” ‪#‎golden‬

Who Am I?

Hi! My name is Honey Silvas, and this is a blog about my life.

I was born and grew up in the Philippines. I’m 3/4 Chinese and 1/4 Filipino. If that’s a lot of math for you, that means my mom is 100% Chinese while my dad is half Chinese and half Filipino. I worked as a cruise ship photographer in Royal Caribbean International for a couple of years, travelling to over 20 countries.

Then I moved here to the US over 7 years ago. I am now living in sunny Sarasota, Florida with my husband, my daughter and my dog.

Gmail Password Leak Update

It’s time to change passwords… again! Have a password changing party!

The WordPress.com Blog

This week, a group of hackers released a list of about 5 million Gmail addresses and passwords. This list was not generated as a result of an exploit of WordPress.com, but since a number of emails on the list matched email addresses associated with WordPress.com accounts, we took steps to protect our users.

We downloaded the list, compared it to our user database, and proactively reset over 100,000 accounts for which the password given in the list matched the WordPress.com password. We also sent email notification of the password reset containing instructions for regaining access to the account. Users who received the email were instructed to follow these steps:

  1. Go to WordPress.com.
  2. Click the “Login” button on the homepage.
  3. Click on the link “Lost your password?”
  4. Enter your WordPress.com username.
  5. Click the “Get New Password” button.

In general, it’s very important that passwords be unique for each account. Using the same…

Our New Montessori-style Baby Room. Baby Not Included.

Here’s our new Montessori-style baby room.

Mostly, she uses it for naps and as a playroom.

We use a crib mattress on the floor so (theoretically) she could go from sleeping to playing with her toys easily.

We also have a safety gate on the door so we can keep it open.

We tried to keep the room as simple as possible so that she can play safely there by herself (work in progress). So far, she is still getting used to waking up in it.
